Someone Made Cornhole for Intellivision

Something Intellivision themselves couldn't even do.

A Closer Look at "Amigo Cornhole" — A Fan-Made Intellivision Amico Clone Unveiled at PRGE 2023

Someone Made Cornhole for Intellivision
Quite the setup

The Portland Retro Game Expo (PRGE) 2023 had no shortage of fascinating reveals, but one fan-made creation in particular caught the eyes of attendees (thx Intellivision Revolution): "Amigo Cornhole," a homage to the ill-fated Intellivision Amico console by the now infamous pathological narcissistic liar, Tommy Tallarico. Unlike its inspiration, which has now become infamous as a scam, this tribute demonstrated a surprising level of quality and polish.

A Faithful Recreation with a Twist

While Tallarico's Intellivision Amico promised much but delivered little, the creator of "Amigo Cornhole" seems to have paid meticulous attention to detail.

The game features intuitive controls and a multi-split-screen display, one area showing the angle adjustments for your throws, which bounce back and forth, and another area depicting the cornhole target. Above it is an image of a person from a distance depicting the field of view.

Gameplay Mechanics

Navigating the game's interface is remarkably easy. Players use one screen to adjust their throwing angle, which oscillates back and forth, requiring precise timing to execute the perfect throw. The second screen focuses on the target, allowing players to strategize their moves effectively. This two-screen approach contributes to a gameplay experience that is both engaging and challenging.

The Buzz at PRGE

It can be yours for $55

Among a sea of retro games and memorabilia, "Amigo Cornhole" stands out (to me at least...). Many passerbys discovered the design, intuitive controls, and overall playability. For a fan-made project, it exudes a level of professionalism that one would typically expect from larger development studios. Though Harvey511 Under mentions it is available for sale for $55 at PRGE, I cannot locate a website for you guys to purchase it online. If I can get that, I'll add it here later.

An Unfortunate Comparison

While the intimation "Amigo Cornhole" is receiving positive feedback, the same cannot be said for Tommy Tallarico's Intellivision Amico. Promised as a NEW console, the Amico turned out to be a financial and critical failure, drawing ire for its misleading promises and lack of actual product, as well as frustrations from investors who trusted Tommy and his words.

A Lesson in Authenticity

"Amigo Cornhole" serves as a stark contrast to the failed Intellivision Amico console. The creator's passion for game design and commitment to delivering a finished product highlights what can be achieved when authenticity takes precedence over empty promises.

In a world where crowd-funded projects and indie game developments often teeter between success and failure, "Amigo Cornhole" stands as a testament to what can be accomplished with genuine passion and skill. The game's unveiling at PRGE 2023 not only adds another gem to the event's line-up but also offers a much-needed palate cleanser to the sour taste left by the Intellivision Amico debacle.
