Sony Pictures Core New Exclusive App for PlayStation Users

Sony Pictures Core New Exclusive App for PlayStation Users
Just another streaming service?

Announced today on the PlayStation Blog, Sony Pictures is taking its partnership with PlayStation a notch higher. With the recent introduction of the Sony Pictures Core app on the Sony PS4 and PS5, fans are in for an unparalleled cinematic treat, especially if they're PS Plus Premium or Deluxe subscribers (it's about time they did something special - especially for what they're trying to charge customers these days).

What's in Store?

The Sony Pictures Core app allows users to dive into a diverse movie library. This includes an impressive collection of up to 2,000 iconic and recent Sony Pictures films. From the Spider-Man series, including hits like "Across the Spider-Verse" and "No Way Home," to other blockbusters such as "Uncharted," "The Equalizer," and the much-anticipated "Ghostbusters: Afterlife," the app is a movie aficionado's dream.

Exclusive Perks for PS Plus Premium and Deluxe Subscribers

The perks don't stop there. If you're a PS Plus Premium or Deluxe member, the app offers a cherry on top. Subscribers have the privilege to stream a curated list of up to 100 movies on demand, ad-free. This selection, set to be refreshed periodically, boasts titles like "Looper," "Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV," "Elysium," and the chilling "Resident Evil Damnation" in time for Halloween!

First Dibs on New Releases?

Sony Pictures Core has an additional surprise in store. Certain Sony Pictures films will have an exclusive window on the app, making them available for purchase there before anywhere else. The much-awaited "Gran Turismo" movie leads the pack, with early access for markets like the UK, France, Germany, and Japan. Interestingly, while "Gran Turismo" is already rentable on various platforms in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, it's been launched on Sony Pictures Core as part of the app's debut.

The Road Ahead

Sony hinted in their blog that this launch is just the tip of the iceberg. The company envisions the evolution of the app's offerings. Soon, anime enthusiasts can also rejoice as Sony plans to introduce a curated selection from Crunchyroll.

In a nutshell, Sony Pictures is reshaping the cinematic experience for PlayStation users. With an expansive movie list and exclusive perks, the Sony Pictures Core app is all set to become the go-to destination for movie buffs... But will it be worth the price of entry?
